What's This All About?

This blog is not written by an all-knowing authority. I am just a regular person who loves to write and is cursed by creativity and curiosity. I am sharing my notes as I try to think through the elements of fiction and figure out what is important.

Some of the people reading this will find the information helpful. Others will probably laugh out loud. That's OK. For the experts out there, this is your chance to show off. Tell me where I am wrong or add additional information that will clarify the topic.

I will also be sharing writing prompts/exercises and things I found useful or interesting. This is what is incredible about the web - connecting with people and freely sharing.

I will be posting some of my work in progress ideas as I try to plan out the story. The purpose is to force me to start writing, but I think it will interesting for others to see ideas develop into a story.

Will these ideas this end up in the virtual trash can or develop into a best seller? Probably the trash. - which is why it is worth the risk to make it public. I think of it as an exercise to help me let go of my inner critic. After that? Well, maybe I will write a good story. I plan to make the process fun and encourage you to join on the adventure.

One thing that is a challenge for me is that I strayed from earlier creative writing days. I have been doing business and technical writing, and instructional design. My creativity has been squelched working for Fortune 500 companies, an engineering firm, a business training section of the technical colleges in my state, and an Air Force training contractor. Sounds like a good excuse. The truth is I enjoyed this work and dearly value my fellow writers, especially at Coca-Cola. But when I try to get back to creative work, I feel tongue-tied. My writing is bloated and ucky.

The only way to conquer this is get writing.

Please share your comments. I want to hear about your taste in reading, your funny stories, writing quagmires, and private victories. I want to connect with people. Of course, if you are the shy or private type, you could just make up something. That's probably an irresistible urge for a writer. It would be a lot of fun. Hope to hear from you.
